ABOUT ME
Welcome to my personal blog!
I am Dr. Michelle Gabata-Thibault, a general physician from the Philippines and a Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Life and Child Development from the University of the Philippines and earned my Medical Doctor degree from Our Lady of Fatima University, College of Medicine.
I received some training in Occupational Medicine while working as Quality Management Representative and Head Physician of a medical diagnostic clinic. I enjoyed this rewarding position for more than 3 years, before I migrated to Canada.
Like thousands of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who came to Canada after completing their medical degree and training in their home country, I faced a long and uncertain licensure process ahead of me.
I faced the same barriers in medical licensure that foreign doctors typically encounter in different stages of their resettlement and integration journey here in Canada. I realized that there were limited opportunities for health-related career pathways compatible for the highly specific knowledge and skill-set that IMGs possess.
But my desire to expand my knowledge, learn new skills, and practice straightaway in the healthcare industry are even greater. These led me to an alternative pathway in the health and wellness sector.
I received additional training in Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine and attended seminars and lectures in Physical Fitness, Nutrition, and Nutraceuticals. I also enjoyed working as a Medical Content writer and researcher.
Despite taking an alternative route, I persevered in my pursuit to one day practice as a medical doctor here in Canada. I worked ceaselessly towards verifying my credentials and passing my qualifying exams. I finally received my Certificate as a Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) on March 2023.
While waiting to be accepted in a Medical Residency training program, I am attending medical observerships at different clinics in the HRM while dividing the rest of my time doing volunteer works at Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS), Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building – QEII, and the Canadian Red Cross.
I consider myself a passionate advocate for health and wellness and an avid health educator.
I invite you to read my blog covering various topics and ways to live a healthier lifestyle. I’ll do what I can to provide evidence-based health information, news alerts, and helpful links to our local health services. Stay in the loop!
